Developers win $7.5K in prizes for building IoT enabled notification services apps on Zang Cloud
Brooklyn, New York – June 22, 2017– Capping off an exciting DeveloperWeek NY 2017, which saw Zang Cloud add four eagerly anticipated updates to its robust communication platform-as-a-service, Zang, an Avaya company, today announced the winners of the Zang Challenge DeveloperWeek Hackathon.
With $7,500 in prizes up for grabs, the Zang Challenge asked developers to build a notification services app that leverages IoT (Internet of Things) to drive proactive communications and workflows with the Zang Cloud API. Zang Cloud is changing the way companies engage and communicate with customers and collaborate with each other, providing dramatically simple tools and APIs that enable businesses to embed communications directly into mobile and cloud-based applications.
As a proud sponsor of the DeveloperWeek Hackathon, the nation’s largest challenge-driven hackathon, Zang would like to thank everyone who participated in the Zang Challenge, and congratulates the following developers on their winning apps:
1st Place Winner- $5000 in American Express® gift cards.
Bryan Knouse, who created multiple applications for his submission, including two IoT use cases; a medical sensor app and a chemical sensor app. These apps use various IoT sensors to monitor levels; the apps then send the user an alert if their heart rates or chemical levels reach a certain pre-defined threshold. Bryan also developed a 2-way SMS app to send videos to friends which then escalates to a phone call when the video is watched, as well as an API generator which produces singular APIs in different languages, such as Ruby, PHP, JavaScript, and more.
2nd Place Winners- $2000 in American Express® gift cards.
Ana Ma, Marty Avedon and Zack Aroui, created an integrated, fully mobile notification and monitoring system that allows neighborhood watch, security teams and police keep tabs on local events. Cameras around the city capture video and when a certain action takes place – a gunshot is heard, for instance – an IoT audio/motion sensor is triggered and the presence is noted. A notification is then sent to emergency responders and officials to dispatch help.
3rd Place Winners- $500 in American Express® gift cards.
John Samuels, Yunchun (Oscar) Chong, Levy Shi, Geoffrey Wang, Michael Tan, created the Smart Pill Bottle, which allows users to communicate with medical devices to ensure successful delivery and consumption of medications. Users can open, close and measure levels of medication in the Smart Pill Bottle. If medication is needed, users can send a notification to the pill bottle to dispense. If there is a pill on the tray that has been dispensed and still needs to be taken, a pressure sensor can trigger an SMS to the patient to take the medication.
With Zang Cloud, it’s free to sign up and build workflows/apps. All fees are based on usage, so businesses only pay for what they use. Companies can scale up or down as needed while easily anticipating costs, based on a simple pricing model.
