Tom Manley is the Chief Financial Officer of Avaya, a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services. In this role, Tom is responsible for the overall financial governance and management of Avaya's financial operations.

 

Tom is a software and telecommunications senior executive with more than 20 years of global experience in a variety of leadership roles at IBM/Cognos and Nortel Networks. Most recently, he was Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President – Administration for IBM/Cognos in Ottawa, Canada. In that role, he helped grow the business from $490 million in annual revenues to over $1.1 billion and increased share price from approximately $19 to $58. He was nominated for Canada's Best CFO Award in 2005 and 2007.

 

Before joining IBM/Cognos, Tom had an 18-year career with Nortel Networks in Canada and the U.S. Most recently, he was Chief Financial Officer of Nortel's $2 billion High Performance Optical Component Solutions group. Previous assignments included SVP – Finance for Nortel's Service Provider and e-Business groups, and VP - Finance for many of Nortel's core business groups including Carrier Packet Solutions, Broadband Networks, Advanced Public Access Systems and Enterprise Systems. He has a strong and consistent track record of growing businesses, opening new markets, directing successful M&A activities, and leading large, dispersed teams.

 

Tom graduated with distinction from Carleton University in Ottawa, with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. He began his business career shortly afterward, as a Production Supervisor with General Motors Canada, working on the factory shop floor. He subsequently earned an M.B.A. at Queen's University in Ontario and joined Nortel's financial management program upon graduating. Tom is based in Basking Ridge.
